Historical romance novelist Nicole Locke had just published her first novel and needed a presence online. Enter Black Monday — we worked closely with Nicole to create an experience that captured both the historical and romantic nature of her writing in today's modern digital world.
Nicole has always loved romance and history. Specifically, medieval England and the Edward I era in which King Edward wrote often and lovingly about his wife, Eleanor. Believing medieval life was honed by the sword, and often determined by strength of will. Nicole considers any love found during this era can withstand the test of time. This is what lead us to using imagery of the medieval Conwy Castle and animated illustrations of knights.
As for the overall colour theme, an iridescent yet soft blue was chosen as it represents both the strength and elegance of romance (as well as one of Nicole's favourite colours). With this the tone was set and Black Monday created an experience unlike any other romance novelist.
